The United States Constitution guarantees all persons living in the United States the right to be treated by the police as a human being. In New York City the police make this a promise by painting on their patrol vehicles the slogan, “courtesy, professionalism and respect.” This slogan is not supposed to be empty words. Instead these words embody your civil rights under the Constitution. Your civil rights mean that, even if you are arrested or guilty of a crime, the police cannot unnecessarily beat you, break your bones, pepper spray you, Taser you, shoot you or handcuff you so tightly that the nerves and muscles in your hands are injured. Tragically not all police officers follow the law and respect your civil rights. We have represented many clients, even children, who have been beaten so badly by the police that their bones and teeth were broken. Some of our clients were shot for no reason or denied access to their medications and medical care. Others were cruelly treated by being handcuffed to radiators or hospital beds and denied food or the basic right to go to the bathroom. If you think that you have been the victim of police brutality, call our office for a free consultation. Our toll free telephone number is: 1800 880 1743.
